The goal of the AAC Communicator Profile is to determine a child’s AAC Communicator Category. The checklist uses skills in pre-linguistic, symbolic, and play skills along with prognostic indicators to arrive at a total score. The total score will determine if a child is an Emerging, Functional, or Generative Communicator. Determining an appropriate AAC Communicator Category helps develop realistic and functional goals that align with the individual's profile for ultimate communicative success. The AAC Communicator Profile also includes an Analysis of Learning to determine if a child is an analytic or gestalt language learner. 
 
The Profile also looks at factors for AAC success by analyzing strengths and barriers of the child, family, and educational professionals.  This information can be used to assist in goal selection, as well as for education and trainings for family and educational professionals.
